A FERRY RING

I have been told that this particular phenomenon is called "a ferry ring." I am not an expert in the slightest degree, but to my eye, this is "pretty neat."

Are they mushrooms? Are they toadstools?

And this is my proof that the ravages of Hurricane Ike are gone. This picture was taken in 2006!

UNUSUAL BIRDS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Three of these don't belong...

Long curved beak

Black feathers turning white

They must be immature White Ibis.

I've never seen a mature White Ibis in our neighborhood, but these three "chicks" obviously need a community and they found one in the Egrets and the Roseate Spoonbills - at least for this morning.

EGRETS APLENTY

It was about 7:15 a few days ago when I rode my bike down the street where our bayou used to be. (Since Hurricane Ike, it has been mostly filled in and in this summer's drought, even the ponds are drying up.) These egrets found this bit of muddy water and congregated - just for my pleasure, I'm sure. I wonder if this flock includes some baby egrets "learning the ropes?"
